Creation of a Garden Room

Our Clients wanted a light airy room from where they could enjoy the wonderful views they have in all weathers and have the ability to extend their dining area if needed.

The detached house was originally built in the 1920 and had had several changes and additions over the years. The original dining area opened onto a patio area that looked tired and dull but has the most amazing views over the fields and hills. The idea was to create a room that would be usable all year round to enjoy the views but also function as additional dining space when needed.

Clay blocks were specified in the design to enable a quick build but also given additional thermal value to the room. Windows were a main feature of the design to enable maximum light in the room making it a garden room as opposed to just a standard rear extension. Bi-fold doors were used both internally and externally, this allowed the dining room to open in to the garden room increasing the dining area for family functions etc. Bi-fold doors externally allows the outdoor to really be part of the room, weather permitting.

A lantern was added to the ceiling to add even more light and a stunning feature that can be appreciated from inside and from the balcony above.
